A Visit To The Queens Park Animal And Aviaries Area.

Room 7 still had a lot of questions about being responsible pet owners. So we went off to Queens Park to talk to some experts. The children found out a lot of interesting facts as well as enjoying a tour of well fed, contented animals and birds. This lamb eats grass, but it wasn't too shy to try a little hair. Did you know that avocado is poisonous to birds? These birds all get wormed regularly with a thin syringe. The larger birds had toys and peanut chains to play with. They are given fresh water and are fed every day. The small animals enjoy fresh, clean bedding and lots of hugs. Even the kunekune pig enjoys a pat. (Click on image to enlarge)

It is great to see the class making good use of a local resource. A change from being cooped up in the classroom.
