Taking Action

Room 7 visited the SPCA to donate pet food. Kitten milk and kitten food was a priority at this time of year. The children took their posters for display. Although the kittens and puppies were fun to play with, Room 7 soon discovered that some animals were injured or aggressive because people weren't being responsible pet owners.

This happy little dog was in the process of being adopted.

On returning to school we did a pass the ball reflection. Everyone sits in a circle and the person holding the ball is the speaker. They can throw it on when they have finished talking. Some highlights included playing with the kittens, pet day, and investigating information on the web.

Going further ...

At this "going further" stage of our inquiry topic, the focus is on research skills. The children's challenge was to design a poster for the local RSPCA that clearly outlined the responsibilities required to look after a pet of their choice. Our library was emptied of pet books and the computers were in constant use. Here are the children working together on their posters. (Click on image to enlarge)

Once the posters were finished the children peer assessed each other on the standard of presentation and the quality of information. The big question was "Would this poster clearly show a person adopting an animal how to be a responsible pet owner?" Here are the children sharing their posters. Children's Choice Time

Children's choice time over the last few weeks have included a swim in the pool, a water pistol fight, scrap making day, and a famous person or super hero day. Below are some photos taken of the scrap day and famous person/super hero day. How many people do you recognise? Can you spot Sir Edmund Hillary?
